The Code

I don't fully understand what all this fuss is about with The Da Vinci Code. Isn't this book categorized as a fiction? Yes, I agree it is somewhat controversial, because the book writes that Jesus was married and had a child. To be honest with you, I don't believe any of that at all. I can understand how some Christians are upset by it, and I know some people that won't even read the book, and that's understandable. My parents won't even touch the book. I guess for people who have a lot of questions about the Bible and Jesus and aren't sure about their faith, are the ones who would tend to believe that the events in the book are true, therefore questioning what is written in the Bible. However, it IS FICTION. Although the author claims that some things in the book are factual, like of course the Louvre, Da Vinci's paintings. But you know what, there are so many historians, people, whoever, that come up with different theories as to how to world was created, what happened, all kinds of stories about certain people, etc. And, what about Anne Rice? Rice recently wrote 'Christ the Lord, Out of Egypt'. Even though I haven't read it, and honestly, although I am a fan of Rice's writing, have no desire to read it whatsoever, but wouldn't this book be even more controversial? It ia about the life of Jesus in the New Testament, and honestly, what does Rice actually know about this? The only way of truely knowing Jesus is to read His word, which is the Bible. Anyone who writes about Jesus' life is an attempt, it cannot fully achieve what is the Bible and a Christians strong faith in God. It is only through the Bible that speaks the truth about God and Jesus. I strongly believe of no other way, with the exception of having a relationship with God, of knowing who Jesus is and what He is really about.

Now you can argue with me that the Bible cannot possible be true in all of its aspects. I've been asked about the credibility of the authors of the different books within the Bible. However, I don't believe the authors of certain books in the Bible are as important as this: 2 Timothy 3:16, 'All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful in teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness...' The important thing is that we know that the Gospel IS from God, and that it is true.

You may think this contradicts the fact that The Da Vinci Code is one of my favourite books, but only for these reasons; I was extremely entertained, I enjoyed reading it because it was an exciting story, as Tom Hanks had put it, 'It is a great scavenger hunt.' So, yes, I enjoyed the book, but that's it, I didn't enjoy it because I believed it, I enjoyed it because it was fun.

i agree. it's a work of fiction, and people who take it as if it's real only confirms how seriously they are considering the FALSE contents of the book.
but then again i can also understand other's view - that these things shouldn't be used as a form of (?)mockery entertainment (ie. Jesus, the Creation, etc).

lol I agree with N about Angels & Demons! I can't wait to see the Da Vinci Code. The story itself is just riveting and clever. We went to see The Last Supper when we were in Milan and we stood there and inspected it just to see what the author or whoever must have seen to come up with those theories. I found that fun, to see these renown pieces of artwork in a different light.

If Dan Brown hadn't included the FACT page, people, apologetic Christians in general would not make make all that fuss. However, there are some who are really concerned about the issues of the book. I have a friend who read the book and in the middle of it, was confused about everything.

Yes, there are people who are weak in their faith. I personally feel that I shouldn't sit on the sidelines and declare that it is a work of fiction and that's it. And I also believe that each is entitled to his or her opinion, that is why I don't blame some who wouldn't even read the book or watch the movie.

But I also want to help those who misunderstand the Bible and the claims of Christianity. Other than that, Da Vinci Code is great read. And definitely better than the movie. :)
