Anybody Out There & Spiderman 3

I'm currently reading Anybody Out There by Marian Keyes. So far, it's been wonderful and entertaining. Funny yet sad. It's about a young woman who's been recently married, and is currently recovering from a major accident. So major that she was pretty much out of commission for a good three months. Anna went back to Ireland so her family could take care of her. When she was well enough, she went back to Manhattan where she currently lives and works for a really big cosmetics company in which she gets all this free stuff! (I'm almost jealous!) Anyway, reality just hit her and realized that her husband died from the car accident they were in, and basically she's on a search for him, she just wants to know if he's ok, so she's trying all these pyschics and mediums to see if she could somehow get into contact with him. That's where I'm at right now.

At the moment, I'm in love with Irish authors. First Irish author I think I ever read was Frank McCourt's Angela's Ashes, which I'm sure you've all heard of. Then I read A Place Called Here by Cecilia Ahern, which I though was great too. I still want to read her other books, I'm just finishing up this current read.

On Sunday my honey and I watched Spiderman 3 in IMAX. First off, let me just say, I'd never watched anything on IMAX and the screen is huge! Would've been nice to watch 300 on it. Oh well. Because I'm being lazy, I won't do the regular layout for my movie posts, sorry. But I'm giving Spiderman 3 a 2 and a half. It was just too emotional for me, too much 'lovey dovey' stuff, and the ending was so cliche, 'It's your choice' type of thing. I mean it's great because there's a moral behind it, but it was so obvious in a way, and I guess I was expecting more action than drama. The action and of course special effects were cool and all (I guess it's hard to think anythings cool after 300) but I just wasn't really into it. And what was with Toby Maguires' eyeliner? I mean, isn't it supposed to be a little bit more...subdued that that? I mean, wasn't it supposed to be not obvious? Weird. And I thought those dance moves were pretty gay, I mean, what the hell was that all about? I'm sorry, I can't see Tobey as the 'bad guy', honestly, I was too embarrased to watch that bit. Should've just waited for it to come out on DVD. Oh well.

I had no interest watching this film since James Bond wasn't Pierce Brosnan anymore, boo. But, I was pleasantly surprised, lots of action, and very entertaining. I still think Pierce is hotter though ;P

Stranger Than Fiction

Release Date: November 10, 2006
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Comedy/Fantasy
Director: Marc Forster
Cast: Will Ferrell, Dustin Hoffman, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Emma Thompson
Official Website and Synopsis

My Rating:

This was a nice surprise. I liked this one a lot because it was unique. It's not like any other movie out there right now. When we picked this up at Blockbuster we thought it would be a full out comedy, obviously because of Will Ferrell, but it was really sweet and...different. I don't exactly how to describe it, but go rent it the next time your at the video store. It might seem a little slow at first, but it ends up pretty good.

Release Date: April 6, 2007
Rating: R
Genre: Action/Thriller
Director: Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino
Cast: Rose McGowan, Stacy Ferguson, Kurt Russel, Bruce Willis etc.
Official Website and Synopsis

My Rating:

Useless entertainment I guess. Maybe I'll get Jo's input on this one...have him write his review on it. There's just nothing for me to say about this one. If anyone were to ask me, actually I'd say it was stupid. It actually reminds me of old school Filipino action movies. Probably good to watch stoned, you'd probably laugh your head off. LOL.

Rating: R
Genre: Horror/Thriller
Director: Stephen Hopkins
Cast: Hilary Swank, David Morrisey, Idris Elba, Anna Sophia Robb
Official Website and Synopsis

My Rating:

This doesn't even deserve a star. It was shit, not worth spending $12. We were so bored on Sunday, that we just decided to watch it. The previews seemed ok, looked like it was really intense. I'm surprised it was even classified as a 'horror' film. Anyway, don't bother with this one. Two thumbs down for me.

Rating: R
Genre: Action/Drama/War
Director: Zack Snyder
Cast: Gerard Butler, Lena Heady, Dominic West, David Wenham, Rodrigo Santoro
Official Website and Synopsis

My Rating:

I admit, I only heard about this movie through a friend of mine, she told me how she was dying to see it. I asked her what it was about and she said it was about 300 spartans going to war against an army of thousands. I thought to myself, 'Ok, another war movie...sure'.
But then I saw the previews. Let me just say, this movie surpassed any expectations I had of it. It is brilliant, the cinematography was amazing. There was only one part that I didn't like about it, ok maybe 2, but I can't really say, don't want to spoil it for whomever hasn't seen it. I only wished I saw it in IMAX. Unfortunately, by the time we got to the theatre, it had been sold out. Bummer. But, it's a must see in the theatres, watch it while it's still out, it definitely won't be the same on your tube, unless of course, you have your own home theatre...

The Break-Up

Release Date: June 2, 2006
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Comedy/Drama/Romance
Director: Peyton Reed
Cast: Jennifer Aniston, Vince Vaughn
Official Website and Synopsis

My Rating:

I love Vince Vaughn. Whatever movie he's in, there's something about him that keeps me drawn in. Maybe it's because he seems so natural on screen. I really liked this movie. I didn't really like the ending though. And this movie is totally relatable. I think the movie portrays men and women in relationships well. I've seen this type of thing happen in real life, the 'I have to get back at him/her' thing.

Release Date: June 6, 2006
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Comedy
Director: Frank Coraci
Cast: Adam Sandler, Kate Beckinsale, Christopher Walken
Official Website and Synopsis

My Rating:

After the first time watching this movie, I thought it was hilarious and I really liked the movie. I even went as far to claim that I was finally an Adam Sandler fan. But I think I changed my mind. I watched it a second time with J (I watched it the first time with my brother). While I was watching it the second time I couldn't help but think how boring it was! There were only a few very funny moments, it wasn't as good as I thought it was, and J was practically losing interest during the film. I still don't understand how I came to love it the first time. Weird. This is a movie to watch when you're bumming around the house with nothing to do, or just for whatever. I probably wouldn't mind having it in my movie collection, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to spend $15 for it.

PS. I probably won't want to watch this movie again. Unlike 50 First Dates, which I can watch over and over again.

Release Date: May 26, 2006
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Action
Director: Brett Ratner
Cast: Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen
Official Website and Synopsis

My Rating:

Is it bad to rate this movie after not having remembered whether I saw the first or second one? Actually, I did see the first one, but didn't watch X-Men 2. I'm just not a fan. There were some action scenes that grabbed my attention, but other than that, I wasn't fully entertained.

Pirates of The Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest

Release Date: July 7, 2006
Rating: PG (Parental Guidance)
Genre: Action
Director: Gore Verbinski
Cast: Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Nightley
Official Website and Synopsis

My Rating:

The movie begins with the arrest of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Nightley). Their only chance of freedom is with the exchange of Captain Jack Sparrow's (Johnny Depp) compass. Will goes and looks for Capt. Jack Sparrow, and the journey begins!

I really enjoyed this movie. There were definitely a few funny moments, and the action was great. I love Johnny Depp, he is my favourite actor. I must admit, I only wanted to see this movie for him, not for the story...heh. The Curse of the Black Pearl was somewhat forgettable, (I have to watch it again for the story) but Johnny Depp's acting wasn't. Nonetheless, I thought it was great. Maybe I'm just in love with him! LOL!
